End of Orientation
Hello all,
We have finished orientation here at Akron, PA. The last two weeks have been busy and full of interesting sessions, thought provoking discussions, and spending time with new friends. (Some session topics included: the history of MCC, peace & peacemaking, undoing racism, undoing sexism, MCC policies, finances, structure of MCC, communication, being a couple on assignment, globalization, and poverty......and more.) Orientation was well structured, well planned, and the speakers were enthusiastic. The food here has been nourishing, healthy and homemade. Our living situation was family friendly and relaxing. We lived with 14 other people. We had our own space when we needed it. There was also a common room and people hung out together a lot. (putting puzzles together, reading, building block towers with the kids, making popcorn, doing crossword puzzles....a very welcoming, cozy atmosphere.)
Isaiah and Micah have very much enjoyed the Children's Orientation and the outdoor space here at the Welcoming Place. They have connected with the other children here at orientation, as well as the adults. They give many good night hugs and kisses each evening before bed. This has been a wonderful group to get to know and it has been a blessing to begin this part of our journey together.
We leave early tomorrow morning, November 2, for Mexico City. We will be in Mexico City until Sunday afternoon. Our Country Representatives, Nick and Ronda King, will drive us to Cuernavaca, where we will studying Spanish for the next 2 months.
We feel prepared, rested and ready to move on to the next part of this journey.
Peace,
Liz
